Charlene Solomon

Charlene Solomon, Executive VP, is a well-known author and developer of web-related intercultural and global mobility support services. She was co-founder of ExpatSpouse.com, is an author and has been a communications consultant assisting organizations with their global programs and communications.

She is an award-winning writer who has written seven books, including co-author of Capitalizing on the Global Workforce: A Strategic Guide to Expatriate Management (with Mike Schell) (McGraw-Hill, 1997). She was a magazine editor and writer for several years and has written hundreds of magazine and journal articles, including as a contributing editor to Workforce Magazine (formerly Personnel Journal), Global Workforce Magazine and Global HR, where she specialized in global human resource issues as well as work-and-family. She and Mike Schell are currently working on another book: CultureWise: How to Do Business Around the World.

Some of her other magazine credits include: LIFE Magazine, Working Mother, the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Magazine, Black Enterprise, Parents, and US Air, as well as many trade and business publications. She wrote the monthly “America” column for UK-based Human Resources magazine. She is the recipient of several magazine awards, a Lowell Thomas award, and awards from the American Society of Business Press Editors and the Community Action Network.

Charlene is currently an instructor in the UCLA Writer’s Program, is chairperson of the Southern California Committee for CARE (an international humanitarian organization), was a past president of the Southern California regional chapter of American Society of Journalists and Authors and has served on the board of Directors. She has worked with The Conference Board on a project related to aging and with Catalyst (a women’s think tank) on women in global business. She is a frequent speaker on global business, human resources, work-and-family issues, and human behavior at international HR conferences, as well as the American Society of Journalists and Authors. She conducts roundtables, has been a commentator for Marketplace on American Public Radio, has been featured on radio shows (including the top-rated Michael Jackson talk show on KABC Los Angeles), and has appeared on numerous television news and feature programs.

She lived and worked in Japan for two years during which time she studied Japanese language and culture, and also developed curriculum for Japanese adults.
