Cross Cultural Management with Tools for Global Managers

Global managers are cross-cultural managers, and need intercultural business skills to manage workplace diversity. They face different challenges than ever before and need to know how to communicate, delegate, mentor and present ideas in culturally appropriate ways. They need to understand how to manage across cultures.
Learning to manage across cultures is not intuitive. It requires global management training in order to master the skills required to lead a global workforce. Organizations that provide global management training build the intercultural management skills necessary for their employees to compete in today’s business environment.
RW3 CultureWizard’s Global Management Skills Track helps build the necessary intercultural management competencies by:
- 1. Developing a personal cultural profile using the culture calculator
2. Helping to identify strengths and abilities in working with and managing people from other cultures
3. Examining readiness for global leadership and defining areas for further development.
4. Illustrating how personal style, background and behavioral attributes can affect the success of a global manager.

CASE STUDY: Global Management Skills Training
An advance team of managers of a European company encountered serious difficulties during construction of a facility in China. They found that it took much longer than they anticipated for their Chinese team to move forward. The Europeans couldn’t understand why each requirement had to be discussed in great detail. Every time the Europeans thought a decision had been made, it was re-opened at the next meeting. As a result, managers were unable to keep any project on schedule and were frustrated.
In response, RW3 developed training curricula centered on the global management skills track, which taught managers to work through translators and to understand that while the expectations of the European client were for direct transactions, the Chinese colleagues needed to feel they fully understood the context and implications of each decision. Ultimately RW3 helped these managers to adapt their expectations and deliver their messages in an effective way.
Likewise, RW3 provides various other tools such as ‘Tools for Global Team Members’ to ensure effortless intercultural communication, ‘Tools for Business Travelers’ that provides them cultural competency training, and also ‘Tools for International Assignees’ that provides expatriate training to individuals traveling abroad.
